Fire destroys 7 houses in Daporijo

DAPORIJO, Sep 25: At least, 7 houses were completely gutted in a devastating fire which broke out at Dillidi colony, here around 1.30 pm on Saturday.
The fire brigade reportedly, could not reach the spot on time due to absence of a proper motorable road in the area. As the fire truck could only reach nearby Polo colony, the fire fighters had to reach the spot on foot to assist the fire victims.
The cause of the fire is however, yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, officials of the department of relief and rehabilitation along with officers from the fire station on Sunday visited the spot to assess the damages caused.

Lakshya and Shriyanshi win men's and women's titles

ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Lakshya Sen of Uttarakhand and Shriyanshi Pardesh of Madhya Pradesh won the men's and women's single titles in the Dorjee Khandu All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament, 2016.
Lakshya Sen, seeded 10th, beat Daniel Farid S. of Karnataka (2nd seed) in straight 21-9, 21-19 sets in 35 minutes to win the title at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Shriyanshi, seeded 7th, defeated Arundhati Pantawane of Maharashtra in 2-1 sets (21-13, 17-21, 23-21), in a nail-biting final that lasted for one hours.
In Men's Double, the pair of Tarun K. (PET) and Sanyam Shukla (Air India) beat the duo of Arun George (Air India) (2nd seed] and Saurabh Sharma (Haryana) in two straight 21-9, 21-17 sets to win the title. The match lasted for 35 minutes.
Number 1 seeded pair of Meghana Jakkampudi (Air India) and Poorvisha S. Ram of Karnataka won the Women's Double title beating second seeded Ningshi Block Hazarika of Assam and Shruti Mundada of Maharashtra in 2-1 sets (19-21, 21-16, 21-16). The match lasted for 1:10 hrs.
In Mixed Double, third seeded pair of Tarun K. (PET) and Meghana Jakkampudi (Air India) beat second seeded Vinay Kumar Singh (Uttar Pradesh) and Ningshi Block Hazarika (Assam) 21-13, 21-6 sets in 30 minutes.
Over 500 players from all over the country representing their respective states participated in the six days tournament.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who attended the closing ceremony and witnessed a couple of final matches, admitted that though there was no dearth of sports talents in Arunachal Pradesh the state lacked modern sports infrastructure and facilities.
Saying that the State Government would create more sports infrastructure, Mein said that efforts are on to equip the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy with state-of-art facilities and equipments. He also said to provide fund for repair and maintenance of the Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium.
"There are in-born talents among the North East boys and girls. The need of the hour is to give them proper guidance and training," Mein said.
He further said, "To arrest the growing drugs menace among the youths, young boys and girls must be encouraged towards in sports activities."
He also told that the State Govt. was contemplating to re-introduce Physical Education in Government Schools.
He recalled the contribution made by former chief minister Late Dorjee Khandu for development of sports in the state.
He expressed gratitude to Badminton Association of India for shouldering Arunachal Pradesh to host the national level tournament for the first time in the state.
Chief Referee cum executive member of BAI, H Gyaneshwor Singh shared words of encouragement with the players before the final match.
Bamang Tago, Secretary ASBA cum Organizing Secretary and P Ankamma Choudary, Observer BAI and Kalyan Dutta, Joint Secretary ASBA also spoke on the occasion.
Later, prizes and medals to the winners and runners up were distributed by Deputy Chief Minister Mein, Deputy Speaker Alo Libang, Minister Kumar Waii, Parliamentary Secretaries Jambey Tashi, PD Sona, Nyamar Karbak, ASBA President Ratu Techi, vice president Tame Phassang, the NHPC Executive Director.
The tournament was organized by Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) under the aegis of Badminton Association of India (BAI) and in association with T.K. Consortium, State Bank of India, Numaligarh Refinery Limited, NEC, NHPC, Vodafone, Jabing-Venia, Nigla Nissan Automobile, Neni Hyundai, 4G Techno and Neeraj Sharma.
CM flags off Mt Kangto Joint Expedition
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: "It is a matter of great pride for me to be amongst the Himveers of ITBP, one of the premier border guarding forces of India, and flag off a mission which will open adventure tourism and mountaineering avenues in the still unexplored region of Arunachal Pradesh. It will increase interaction among security forces and local people for benefits of both," said Chief Minister Pema Khandu while flagging off ITBP Force- IMF Mt Kangto (7042 mtrs. Aprox. 23200 Ft above sea level) Joint Expedition 2016 at North East Frontier Headquarters of ITBP at Khating Hills here on Sunday.
A team of 32 members both from ITBP and IMF headed by Deputy Commandant Hari Singh of ITBPF will carry out the mission which is expected to be accomplished in a month's time.
CM believed that the joint expedition by the ITBPF which has uncountable achievements in the field of mountaineering with Indian Mountaineering Foundation, a premier organization in the field of mountaineering which regulates and undertakes various mountaineering expeditions in India and keeps on exploring India's highest, inaccessible and challenging regions would waive the glorious Indian Tri-colour flag atop Kangto peak, the highest one in the state.
"As the mission is very tough and challenging due to several threats and obstacles on the way, I congratulate the ITBPF and IMF for conceiving and executing such a crucial mission knowing that many earlier missions in this area have been unsuccessful. I pray to Almighty for safety of the team members and wish grand success to the expedition" he wished.
Pema assured that the State Government would provide all help and assistance in terms of logistic, local support, chopper service at times of emergency in order to make the mission successful and smooth. He made special request to the Home Minister who happens to be the local MLA of Bameng, Kumar Waii, to ensure that the team, which is passing through his constituency, be provided with all possible local support.
Viewing the expedition as very important from the state's view, he said that it would open up new vistas and help local people in many ways. "It would also explore the yet to be explored region and will make the reach of local administration in the area easy and approachable," he said.
In the sideline of the programme, Pema extended his sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju for shifting the North East Frontier Headquarters of ITBPF from Shillong to Itanagar. He hoped that having the frontier headquarters in the State Capital would not only help in securing the borders but would also benefit the state in effective law and order management.
"Your border guarding duties, civic action programmes, respect for local people and welfare activities are testimony of your professionalism and humanism. I am equally happy that Himveers are always at the forefront whenever there is need for management of disasters and mitigation," added the CM.
Calling Arunachalee youths brave, disciplined and born adventurous having knowledge about jungles and mountain, the CM reiterated his appeal for recruiting more and more Arunachalee youths in its force.

Maintaining state-run colleges

About every district in our state has a government college which is struggling to function because of poor infrastructure facility. It is an undeniable fact that poor college infrastructure has a direct impact on the quality of education it offers to most of the state's students. The state currently has over 20 government-run colleges besides, three institutions under central government, the National Institute of Technology and North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology and the Rajiv Gandhi University. Also functioning in the state are nine privately-run colleges in addition to teacher training institutes and college of horticulture and forestry.
Most of the government institutes are in a poor state despite crores of funds being sanctioned by the central government for college infrastructure development. Complete absence of accountability concerning proper implementation of funds has facilitated widespread corruption by government officials who siphon off the funds meant for college development.
A usual government college is marked by its decrepit structure, has inadequate classrooms and toilets and is always short on teaching staffs. Students have to choose their courses depending upon the availability of particular subject lecturers. These are common issues in all of the government colleges of the state.
Considering such sorry state of affairs of our education sector, it seems highly improbable for the state government as to be able to ensure the proper growth and development of all the new colleges and institutes it has lately announced to establish in the state.
In April last year, the GoAP has announced establishment of the first government engineering college of the state at Toru in Papum Pare district with proper funding from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Union Ministry has already released funds to the tune of three crores as first instalment for its infrastructure development. Another prominent project is the National Institute of Film and Television under the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry proposed at Jollang Rakap, also in Papum Pare district. More recently, the state government has also approved for construction of a proposed college of Ayurveda under the ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in the state.
Yet, apart from these projects, one of the most awaited and vital project of the state, the establishment of a Medical College in Naharlagun has been sadly, facing unnecessary delay in getting started. It is over a decade now since the project has remained stalled due to reasons ranging from official ineptness to continued political instability. It is high time the state government starts paying more attention to the upkeep of state's existing colleges and institutes rather than announcing more projects only to keep them stuck in an endless limbo. Many an issue plague the state-run colleges and institutes, the focus of the GoAP, should therefore, be more on addressing those as the future of the state's thousands of students is at stake.
Flood affected villagers allege misuse of relief fund

ROING, Sep 25: The flood affected villagers of Anpum are crying foul over the misuse of the relief fund amounting to more than 25 lakhs, which was donated to them by various organisations and political leaders after the devastation caused by flood of two subsequent years which almost completely washed away the village last year.
The villagers have pointed fingers at the ZPM 10th Anpum-Paglam Block for misusing the public fund along with his PRI leaders and ASM Anpum B segment. "We have been waiting since a year for distribution of relief material supposed to be procured from the relief fund. However, we were shocked to learn that the fund was misused by our own leaders", said a villager.
"The 20 lakh rupees announced by both MP RS Mukut Mithi and MP LS Ninong Ering, in the name of flood protection work under their MPLAD, to be executed by the DRDA Roing was also drawn from the department by the ZPM without any work done", alleged a villager.
The villagers informed that a meeting was organised in their village on 10.08.2016, which was attended by the GB and all the villagers, and the accused ZPM. "The ZPM accepted the misuse of the relief fund and said that he would return the amount to the villagers in three days time, but he has never done so till date", they said.
They went on to say that not only the money, but relief items have also failed to reach the flood affected people. "People from all over the state donated in cash and kind for flood relief for Anpum village but it is sad that the relief did not reach us. Only a couple of organisations that had distributed relief items in the hands of victims reached us. So, it is our earnest request to all organizations/ individuals that to make sure that your efforts do not go to waste, any donations you make for any victims should be made directly in the hands of the affected", said the villagers.
'Divert youths towards sports to prevent drugs abuse'
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Bethene College beat Nanam Khampti 2-1 in the opening match of the Rehabilitation Running Football Tournament, which began at Manmow playground on September 25.
Parliamentary Secretary Chow Zingnu Namchoom, who kicked off the tournament amidst a huge gathering of soccer lovers, emphasized on the need to organize such tournaments to divert youths towards sports to prevent drugs menace.
Namchoom hoped engaging the youths in sports activities would keep them away from drugs and other un-productive activities. Explaining the importance of games and sports, he encouraged the youths to take part in such sports activities.
Later, Namchoom was introduced to the players of both the teams before he declared the tournament open.
The winning team will get Rs 30,000 while the runners up will be given Rs15,000. There are individual prizes for 'best player', 'best goalkeeper' and disciplined team.
In total, 16 teams are participating in the tournament.
ZPC C.K Mounglang, ZPM Chow Mahajini Choupoo, DDSE Namsai Talom Pabin, PRIs members, public leaders and football lovers attended the inaugural function and witnessed the opening match.
The tournament is organized by the youths of five villages, namely Manmow, Sengsap, Manna, Kungyao &Nanam- Khampti youths in collaboration with ALL Namsai Areas Youths Association (ANAYA) under the aegis of Parliamentary Secretary Namchoom.
ABK resolves various issues, to extend support for infrastructure development

PASIGHAT, Sep 25: The Adi Baane Kebang in its Central Executive body meeting held at Siang Guest house here on Saturday strongly condemned the filing of PIL in High Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT) by two of Adi youths which is reportedly delaying the road construction along Pasighat-Pangin Road. In the meeting Advocate, Tony Pertin, V/President (Pro), ABK (apex) was endorsed to prepare a draft reply from ABK's side in support of infrastructure development in Adi belt which will be submitted to NGT and Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
Issues like non drawal of PMS lottery on due date, wrong description of Adi genealogy in a book, revocation of AdiSU Gen. Secretary's suspension etc were also taken up for discussion in the meeting which was attended by ABK E/Siang, Women Wing, Youth Wing, Pasighat Mega Solung Committee etc,.
While terming the cancellation of Pasighat Mega Solung (PMS) lottery draw as immature decision, the the ABK (apex) has planned for expediting the sale of remaining tickets. The house endorsed Chairman Lottery Committee cum President, ABK E/Siang to liaison with local MLA for timely sale of the same which will be drawn on 18th December 2016.
The house also directed Dr. Gindu Borang, author of "Changing Socio Cultural Institution of Adi (Padam) of Arunachal Pradesh" to reprint the correct version and also urged him to publish a corrigendum in one of state's daily. Dr. Borang had mistakenly framed/quoted "Kuming-Kuri (Minyong clan) and Nuda (Padam clan)" as the descendents of Bomi which had drawn wide objection within the Adis. When contacted Dr. Borang for his comment, he clarified that the book was written for pan Adi unity by describing Minyong and Padam from same ancestors. "However, I am ready for any correction and reprinting of my book if it has certain disagreement by some section of our Adi brethren", told Dr. Borang to this reporter over telephone.
The house also endorsed President, ABK (apex) to revoke the suspension order against AdiSU General Secretary, Buteng Tayeng and members of AdiSU Namsai Unit after patient hearing of the reports submitted by the inquiry committee in connection with the alleged extortion against Buteng Tayeng and others. A tripartite meeting of ABK (apex), ABK Namsai District Unit and AdiSU will also be held shortly to draw undertaking from AdiSU to work under ABK Namsai Unit. The house also unilaterally agreed upon proposal of President, ABK (apex) to call for a coordination meeting of ABK (apex), ABK district units, Women Wings, Youth Wings, AdiSU, MLAs and MPs for understanding, coordination and unity of Adis.
Arunachal bags 9 medals in 36th Jr. Natl. Taekwondo C'ship
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Arunachal Pradesh achieved its best ever National Teakwondo Championship medal haul since 1988 with five gold and four bronze medals in the 36th Junior National Taekwondo Championship, which concluded at Ludhiana, Punjab on Sunday.
The gold medal winners are Lakpa Gelu (U-48kg), Jina Yangfo (In Group Poomsae), P. Veronica Socia, (2 gold--one in Individual, another in Group Poomsae) and Atil Nisso (in Group Poomsae).
The bronze medal winners are, Ontey Khamlai (two bronze-one in Individual, another in Group Poomsae), Shecho Lhamu(in Pire Poomsae), Yater Kiri (U-49kg)
The officials were Tarak Dotand, Honi Yadar (Coach Cum Manager) and Ranjit Biswakarma
A total of 17 boys and girls accompanied by three officials participated in the championship.
Arunachal Pradesh won three gold medals in the National Taekwondo Championship held at Cuttack, Odisa in 1988.
BFC beats TTFC by 2-1, wins Lt. Lik Moyong Memorial Football tourney

PASIGHAT, Sep 25: Playing in the final of 2nd edition of Late Lik Moyong Memorial Football Tournament 2016 at Mirem Village on Sunday being organized by Mirem Sports Association (MSA), the Bilat Football Club (BFC) defeated Thomas Tayeng Football Club (TTFC) by 2-1 goals.
BFC's Obuk Siram scored the first goal in the very first minute, while the second goal was scored by Tajing Siram in the second half of the match at 50th minute. TTFC's lone goal at the last moment was netted by Taken Gammeng. Newton Taloh, Vijoy Gao and General Modi all from TTFC were declared as Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender and Best Player respectively.
While Laimekhuri Town Club from neighboring Assam was declared as the Best Discipline team. Informing about the tournament, Tabir Tatan Eko, Chairman, Benjamin Ering, President and Anand Mize of Mirem Sports Association said that, a total of 22 teams across Ruksin Sub-Division participated while one team from Assam also joined.
Attending the concluding day of the tournament local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary, Agriculture, Er. Tatung Jamoh urged youngster of his constituency to take up sports as alternative career as the state government has taken steps for promotion of sports in the state.
Jamoh further said that, his shifting loyalty with state leaders are due to remain in a ruling party for the betterment of his constituency. "We don't have any scope of fund arrangement for bringing development in the area, so being in a ruling party is the only option to bring development schemes for our people", clarified Jamoh.
Er. Tapi Darang, SE, PWD, Boleng Circle also addressed the public. A large number of Govt officials and public leaders also enjoyed the final match.
Lt. Lik Moyong, yonger brother of Er. Karsing Moyong, AE, Mebo was born on 24th October 1974 and died at the age of 31 on 3rd June 2005. Late Moyong was a talented goalkeeper in the Bilat Secondary School football team which had represented the whole state of Arunachal Pradesh in the Suproto Mukherjee Cup in 1991.
Arunachal contributes 4 medals
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Representing India, four karate players from Arunachal Pradesh contributed four medals, including 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, to country's total medal count in the 3rd South Asia Karate Championship, which was held in New Delhi from September 22 to 25.
Sinne Mikhu won a gold medal in Kumite in below 50 kg senior men's category while Jackap Flago Taniang and Bumi Nuk bagged a silver medal each in Kumite in above 70 kg boys (cadet) and below 50 kg girls (cadet) category respectively.
Yame Gyadi bagged the bronze medal in below 40 kg Girls (cadet) Kumite.
Arunachal Karate Do Association (AKA) general secretary Bulang Marik, who was the Team India coach, led the state team.
Meanwhile, AKA President Shihan Likha Tara expressed immense happiness over the outstanding performance of the state's karates in the highly competitive championship.
Since Karate has been included in Tokyo Olympics, this performance of the players assumes great importance and significance, the AKA president opined.

Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay birth centenary celebration begins
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: The State Level Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Birth centenary celebration Samaroh was inaugurated at Arunalay (Hill Top Community Hall) here in the presence of party leaders and karyakartas on Sunday.
In his inaugural speech, State Vice President and President Incharge Dominic Tadar said that the yearlong centenary celebration of Punditji is to carry forward pro poor (Garib Kalyan) policy, schemes and projects initiated by the BJP led NDA Govt. at the centre.
He called upon the party karyakartas of the state to get ready for the year long programme with a mission to serve the last man in the village.
Resource person Dr Joram Anya dwelt at length the life history and struggle of Pundit Deen Dayal.

Power supply disrupted
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: West Kameng and East Kameng districts have been reeling under darkness since Sep 22 midnight following the disruption in 132 KV Balipara-Khuppi feeder line due to falling of big tree on power line in between Nechiphu and Khuppi.
Staff of both M/s Mega Electric and DOP are working on war footing to restore the power supply to West and East Kameng districts,
which may take two more days, according to an official release issued by EE, (E), Bomdila Electrical Division.
Though power supply to Bhalukpong and Tippi areas has been restored on Sunday afternoon, 33KV Feeder lines from Khuppi to Bomdila and Khuppi to Seppa will remain cut-off till the restoration work is accomplished within two days, the release said. The EE, on behalf of the power department, requested the consumers to bear with inconvenience caused due to power disruption and regretted for the same.
Girl found hanging in Roing

ROING, Sep 25: Body of a young girl was found hanging inside a shop in the main market here, in the wee hours of Saturday.
"No sign of physical or sexual assault was found on the body. The report of the postmortem is yet to be received in order to determine the time of death but the body seemed to be a day old when found," police informed.
The girl was working in a tailor shop, run by Nasibul Islam, as an apprentice. Nasibul was last seen by the neighbouring shopkeepers closing shop for some personal work on Friday noon, but never returned.
Police has ruled out suicide until further investigation and a case under UD case no.8/2016 under section 174 CRPC has been registered in the Roing Police Station.
"A manhunt for Nasibul Islam has been launched but not much information could be retrieved as he used to stay in the Masjid and has no family here," police further added.
Cleanliness drive at Itanagar Gompa
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: In keeping with the spirit of the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society (IBCS) today conducted cleanliness drive at Thupten Gatselling Monastery, Itanagar also known as Itanagar Gompa.
The members of Capital Monpa Students' Union also actively participated in the cleanliness drive. The volunteers cleaned up the heaves of garbage accumulated in the monastery premise.
Meanwhile, IBCS appealed the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner to immediately evict the dustbin constructed near the main entrance of the monastery, stating that it was not only unhygienic but also give bad look to the holy place where thousands of people visit every month.
Further, the Society requested the Secretary Art and Culture Department for proper use of Siddhartha Hall, adding that people create lots of nuisance and always seen littering waste materials in the monastery premise.
Awareness campaign for police personnel conducted
TAWANG, Sep 25: A training-cum-awareness campaign on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children Act) was organized by district police Tawang in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority at Zomkhang Hall here on Sunday which was attended by various police personnel.
During the campaign, Tawang JMFC-cum-Civil Judge, Tailang Laji spoke on topics like juvenile justice board, procedure in relation to children in conflict with law, rehabilitation and social integration, offences against children and mistakes done by police.
Further, Advocate, Pem Chowang threw light on general principles of care and protection of children, child welfare committee and adoption. Tawang SP, MK Meena was also present on the occasion. (DIPRO)
Twenty weightlifters selected
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: In total, twenty weightlifters comprising of ten girls and ten boys have been selected by the Athletes' Selection Committee of Arunachal Weightlifting Association recently, for participation at the 12th Youth National, 53rd Men and 29th Women National Championship to be held at Bhubaneswar, Odisha from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 next.
Those selected include; Girls: Balo Yalam (44 Kg Category), Posen Kongkang (58 Kg), Tadar Neha (44 Kg), Minu Moriju (63 Kg), Techi Nadam(48 Kg), PH Rosni (63 Kg), Anai Wangsu (53 Kg), Christina Tayeng (69 Kg) and Boni Mangkiya (58 Kg).

BJP Capital unit meets CM
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: A delegation of BJP Capital unit led by its president Tarh Soping met Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday and submitted a two point memorandum regarding construction of an alternative road from Papu Nalah via Donyi Polo School, Lobi Panch Ali to Chandranagar to solve traffic congestion and for posting an IAS officer as DC Capital.
The CM in his response said that the matters will be looked into on top priority, informed BJP Capital district unit in a release.
Keh-Meh-haa celebration ends
ANINI, Sep 25: The two day Mega Keh-Meh-haa festival celebration in Anini came to a grand end on Sunday. The day witnessed numerous cultural programmes, traditional and modern Fashion show and musical programmes by various local bands.
Animal husbandry, veterinary, dairy development and sports and youth affairs minister Rajesh Tacho, CALSOM General secretary Suraj Tayang and the Deputy Commissioner Dibang Valley Tamune Miso attended the closing ceremony of the celebration. DIPRO
Two parklets inaugurated
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Two park lets constructed under Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) were inaugurated by chief councilor Kipa Kaku here on Sunday.
"These parklets would be very useful," remarked chief councilor.
The park lets have been set up at Niti VIhar tri-junction near police check naka, which would be used by the security forces and work as passenger waiting shed for the area, and another one is on the way to golden jubilee state banquet hall.
Workshop on music
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: The Vivekananda Center of Human Excellence, Naharlagun has organized a workshop on Music and Music Therapy programme at Naharlagun on Sunday. The resource person of the programme was Sharmistha Chatterjee, a renowned music teacher from Kolkata Metro Music Academy, who teaches both Classical and Modern songs.
Meanwhile, Sharmistha made up her mind to visit the state capital once in every month for vocal music teachings under Vivekananda Center of Human Excellence. The Centre also has decided to open a Music Academy in the name of Vivekananda Music Academy.
Plantation drive conducted
ITANAGAR, Sep 25: Saplings of fruit bearing trees were planted at the Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic College (RGGP) campus here on Sunday as part of a cleanliness drive themed, 'Go Green Keep Clean' organized by the NSS unit of the college.
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Civil and Supply, Likha Saaya along with the Principal of RGGP also took part in the plantation drive.
